DO NOT LOOK FOR ME; I AM IN A WORKSHOP ALL DAY

07-Jun-2019
Periods 1 & 4: I am in a meeting all morning. You have 60 minutes of class time to work on one or more of the following:

  • Read/view/watch remaining Theme 9 videos/resources
  • Final Exam Prep - practice tests, use provided resources, etc.
  • EdPuzzle assignment #3, which you've had since 12:01am on 05Jun to complete, is still due by 11;59pm tonight (72 hrs to complete a 6-minute video assignment on phone or computer)

EVERY DAY: Final Exam Prep (15 mins day => own the final!)

04-Jun-2019

As shared many times in class and via Remind...

The following TWO EdPuzzle assignments are due by 11:59pm tonight (Tuesday, June 4, 2019):

  1. VERSION 2: Identity Theft Prevention – Don’t Become a Victim of ID Theft (be sure to do the "Version 2" assignment; the old version, which has a glitch on one question, was called Identity Theft Prevention – Don’t Become a Victim of ID Theft) (under 3 mins)
  2. Insurance Explained - How Do Insurance Companies Make Money and How Do They Work (6 mins)

My deepest apologies for having to post the "version 2" on Sunday after a student alerted me to a glitch with a question. Fortunately, since only a few students started early, this does not affect most of you.

You have from 12:01am on Wednesday, June 5th until 11:59pm this Friday, June 7, 2019 to complete this EdPuzzle:

  1. How Health Insurance Works (5 mins)

Expect about 3 more for early next week. EdPuzzle assignments are instead of packets.

EVERY DAY: Final Exam Prep (15 mins day => own the final!)

01-Jun-2019

EdPuzzle (continued)

  • Two new EdPuzzle assignments were posted this morning, due by 11:59pm on Tuesday, June 4 (no school that day).
  • More assignments coming for Theme 9; they'll be announced in class, via Remind, and on this page, as usual. Each one should take well under 10 mins. Assume all will be scored/graded.
  • To ensure you receive proper credit, be sure to let video finish completely, then click blue button ("view results"). If you just close the window your score may not be correctly recorded => MISSING!!
  • When a question pops up, you can answer it or rewatch (rewind); once you answer question, you can't go back.
  • If you use your Google account to access EdPuzzle and have a name other than your real name (like KillaMike or EasyMoney44), EdPuzzle shows that name; if it's not clear it's you, no credit will be recorded. I offered to assist with name corrections but no one showed up.
  • There are FREE EdPuzzle apps for iOS and Android that may work better than a browser on a phone.

EVERY DAY: Final Exam Prep (15 mins day => own the final!)

31-May-2019

  1. Expect additional EdPuzzle assignments on Risk Management in the next few days. See me in person if your ID/name is not correct so I can help you; otherwise, you may receive no credit.
  2. Continue to use all Resources, especially those that match with the topics below (see 29-May).
  3. Final Exam Prep: 15 minutes a day keep the low final exam grade away.

Please use the entire class period for Personal Finance:

  1. Banking "quiz" which VERY closely follows All About BankingClick here to see how to go to next section! If you did the Banking EverFi module, you'll likely remember a lot. Also, some of the Banking material was covered in earlier parts of the course. You may use any other resources.
QUIZ (25 pts) grade. You may work together. Submit whatever you have done before you leave class.
  2. If you finish quiz early, work on EverFi module 6 (due by 11:59PM on 20May). You've had 3 months to work on it.
  3. If you're done with (1) and (2) above, Final Exam Prep (you should be working with the two documents and many practice tests on a regular basisif you want to do well).

Rest of course looks like this:

  Theme 6 (Banking):  3 classes

  Theme 7/8 (Housing/Transportation):  2 classes

  Theme 9 (Insurance):  3 classes

Final Exam Review:  1 class (plus X-day class on 12Jun)

16-May-2019

Theme 5 test is due BEFORE NOON on Sunday, May 19, 2019
(72 hours from this posting). Classes had option of review or "get started" during last class before weekend. Computer time in D215 was offered during HR1, period 3, period 6, and after school. Here are 11 solutions to your technology issues. Remember to complete EverFi (see above, originally assigned in February) on time.

Theme 5 (Credit) test guidelines:

  1. UNLIMITED attempts (high score prevails).
  2. You may use ANY non-human resources you like.
  3. If you don't properly complete/submit at least once by the deadline, you may complete it on Monday, May 20, for 75% credit. After that, it's a MISSING (zero).
  4. If you have technical issues, contact me via Remind, but I am not on call 24/7 - I will respond when I can.
  5. For most of you, your username is firstnamelastname957; your password is still your student number (no changes since you were physically given this info months ago). No secret word.

In between NJSLA, AP, and Science testing, we've been moving through the packets and resources for Theme 5. Your test will begin within 1-2 days and you will have access to resources/notes but without links to the answers. If you want to max your score you should be very confident with topics in Essential Study Guide (distributed in class a week ago AND on Resources page since February).

You should be spending 15 minutes daily on Final Exam Prep. This will also help you with current topics.

03-May-2019

Redemption test for Theme 4 (Investing).

02-May-2019

After Theme 4 test, we go straight into Theme 5 (Credit). You should START using the Theme 5 Study Guide right away as a roadmap through Credit. There are MANY resources and packets for this major topic - WAY too much to cram or memorize. #ChooseWisely

  • Wondering why your grades aren't where you'd like them to be? Most of you promised a superb effort with no missing assignments when you completed the survey on the 1st day of the course...reality has turned out differently. Try following the advice of those who have gone before you...or keep doing what you're doing (and keep getting the same results).

  • An example of an excellent student submission was shown in class along with a detailed explanation of what's expected; come in for extra help if you need to.
  • Failure to read & follow directions will result in point deduction; consider directions to be a "big hint."
  • The assignment will be activated in Schoology the evening of Sunday, March 24th. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to ensure you can access your own Schoology account. IT Helpdesk is open M-F.
  • If you use an app to track your entries (which you must add to the sheet) and write a detailed review of that app, extra credit is a possibility - see me about this.
  • If there's an expense that covers your family (like a meal out), only include YOUR portion unless you are paying for the whole family - this is YOUR budget, not FAMILY budget.

First assignments of the course - an easy way to start things off on a positive note. The first TWO items below are GRADED and due no later than 9pm TONIGHT. No extensions.

Read them all first, then go back to #1 and complete them.

1) Install FREE Remind app, set up account (if you don't have one yet), and join the correct class using the codes below. This should take under 1 minute (if you already have the app or insist on using the text version of Remind) to 5 mins (if you have to start from scratch and install the app). If you are not sure what class you are in, check your schedule or come see me after school for assistance.

Per 01: @pfs19p01

Per 04: @pfs19p04

Per 07: @pfs19p07

Per HR2: @pfs19hr2

NOTE: The Remind app is quicker, has more features, and is more reliable than text. Sometimes extra credit "specials" are sent via Remind so failure to check can cost you points!
Recommended: set notifications to persistent. If this doesn't work for you, text the code for your class (including the @) to 81010 or
908-923-0935. Please use your REAL/FULL name to ensure you receive credit; if I don't recognize a name I may remove it from the Remind class.

YOU ARE 100% RESPONSIBLE FOR READING
ALL
REMIND NOTIFICATIONS.

2) Complete this Google form/survey. Should take about 5 minutes.

3) Read/review course syllabus with parent/guardian so everyone knows what's expected. If you have questions, ask via Remind or the next time you see me in person.

4) Read/review Grading Policy page.

5) By now you should have read the PHS Student Handbook. The link to the latest version of this document is herebe sure to read the 2nd bullet point at the bottom of page 26.

6) BLENDED (HR2) ONLY: Read this page about Blended Learning with parent/guardian and be sure it is a good match for you and your learning style; if not, see me and/or your counselor ASAP.
