In a nutshell, in this course you will learn how to make, save, manage, and "create" money and security for your current (and future) self. Some of what we do will be applicable right away (budgeting, saving), some in a few months (financing higher education), and some in many years (going out on your own, retiring).

Your "textbook" is the resources page on this site. You'll use technology often (many assignments and all assessments are online). Other important pages are under Personal Finance (SEM) on the left side of this page.

You'll have many opportunities to learn and succeed in this class - come every day with questions!

Summary

The course is divided into themes (units), including::

  • Financing Higher Education
  • Goals & Decision Making
  • Careers and Planning
  • Budgeting/Taxes
  • Saving & Investing
  • Credit
  • Banking Services
  • Transportation
  • Housing
  • Risk Protection (Insurance)

Projects, videos, lecture, worksheets/packets, class discussion, and interactive multimedia learning activities are used to learn the course content. Students and their families are strongly encouraged to discuss these topics. Successful students submit work completed in a quality manner and on time.

Projects are assigned and collected via Schoology. Schoology and Remind are used to send announcements. Students are expected to monitor both on a daily bassis.

EXTRA HELP

Students should seek extra help as soon as they realize it's needed - sometimes a 3-minute conversation can clear something up (and sometimes much more is needed); do not wait until the last minute. BE PROACTIVE, NOT REACTIVE.

Students are expected to check the Assignments page daily and to sign up for Remind for their class.

Please see Success Page for info on extra help.
